Our ministry
The church ministers to all children, youth and adults through various groups and associations throughout the diocese. Together, they bring life to the church through fellowship, social and community outreach and volunteering, training and most importantly evangelisation.
Diocesan associations and ministry groups
Children’s Ministry
Officially established by the Synod in 1909, the Sunday School (Sekoly Alahady) holds a significant historical and cultural importance as it is known to have been the first of its form of ministry in the Christian community in Madagascar. This pioneering institution has played a vital role in ministering to the spiritual needs of young children and teenagers, fostering a strong foundation of faith and values within the community.
Youth Association – RIATA
The Youth group is an integral part of the diocese, playing an active role in the various parishes. Their involvement encompasses a wide array of activities, including bible studies, training sessions, participation in environmental initiatives, and engaging in cultural activities such as church music and choirs. It main role is to coordinate and run the various youth-oriented activities within the church.
Scouts
The anglican church is historically the pioneer of the Scouts mouvement in Magadascar. The first scout mouvement was founded on April 9, 1922 (Palm Sunday) in Antaninarenina, under the guidance of the Reverend Jhon Fuller
The Mothers’ Union
Established since 1903, the Mothers’ Union in Antananarivo is one of the largest groups in the diocese counting up to 2640 active members, and is part of the worldwide Mothers Union organisation present in over 84 countries.
Men’s Association – FLKAM
The Anglican Men’s Christian Association – FLKAM is an association that nurtures men to bear witness as responsible Christians within the family, church, and their communities.
Church Music Association-SMMA
SMMA is one of the newly established associations in the diocese. It brings together many musically talented individuals of the church. Its aim is to use these talents in the church to worship the Lord.
The Servers and Choristers Association (FMSA)
The FMSA is a group for children and young people who carry out sacred ministry within the Anglican Church. They play a key role in religious services and the supports the clergy in their ministry.
The "DORKASY"
This is a women’s association that is responsible for carrying out social work within the different churches. They also serve the church through the care and maintenance of sacred linen and vestments used within the churches.
Communities
Society of the servants of Jesus Christ FMJK
The FMJK Sisters were founded in 1985 within the Anglican Church.
They are currently the only religious community within the church, and are active in social care, teaching and pastoral work in the villages around the convent.
The Anglican Department for Social Care (SAHASOA)
The SAHASOA is a branch through which the church carries out social work, especially in the field of education and health care for its community.
Akany Famonjena
Akany Famonjena, which translates to “Nest of Salvation” in Malagasy, is an orphanage situated in a village 18 km outside ANtananarivo. Established in 1996 by Mary Sherwood, a Canadian missionary, the orphanage serves as a home to children from various backgrounds.
