STATEMENT

Dear Malagasy people, dear fellow Christians,

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

Grace and peace be with you from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

We are living together through the current situation in our country, which is a cause of concern and creates anxiety among the Malagasy people. The Church perceives that fihavanana—the fundamental value that unites Malagasy society—is under threat. Indeed, social and political tensions are increasingly visible, along with provocations through speech, media, and social networks aimed at dividing fellow citizens, while poverty continues to affect many.

As a prophetic voice and sentinel within the nation, the Church united in the FFKM cannot remain silent or simply observe in the face of such realities. Therefore, it issues this declaration to the Malagasy people and the nation.

Hurtful words and divisive actions must cease, for no lasting development can exist without peace and unity. The FFKM calls on leaders and all citizens to safeguard these by rejecting hatred, verbal violence, and all forms of provocation.

In the face of the spread of misinformation—causing confusion, provocation, and relational tension—it is essential to return to the truth, for truth alone exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34). The FFKM calls on everyone to speak wisely, not to spread falsehoods, but to uphold truth and respect the dignity of others in both word and deed.

The deeply rooted poverty affecting the majority of the population undermines human dignity. Moreover, the misappropriation of national wealth—benefiting only a few—is an offense against the nation and against others. The FFKM therefore urges and encourages those in positions of responsibility to fulfill their duties with integrity and transparency, to protect the vulnerable, promote the common good, and act justly. As Scripture says: “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression” (Isaiah 1:17).

Madagascar is rich in diversity, but this must not become a source of division. Despite differences in origin, the Malagasy are one people, sharing a common history and a shared future. Any exploitation of ethnic or regional differences as a tool for division must be rejected. Madagascar has been given by God as one Island.

We all acknowledge that the nation is seriously ill and urgently needs healing and restoration.

In response, the FFKM reaffirms its readiness and commitment to support all processes aimed at healing the wounds of history and rebuilding the nation on Malagasy values enlightened by the Gospel: fihavanana, human dignity, hope, confession, repentance, truth, and reconciliation (the “4F”). In this regard, the FFKM will hold a General Assembly from May 18 to May 21, 2026, in Antananarivo, to reflect on both its internal life and the life of the nation in its role as prophetic voice and sentinel. This is intended to prepare for the various national consultations to come, helping establish a climate of stability conducive to sincere and constructive dialogue.

We wish to clarify that, apart from the worship service held on December 10, 2025, at CCI Ivato, the FFKM has not been involved in the preparation of those various consultations. However, the FFKM reiterates that from the very beginning of this process, it expressed its willingness to lead a national dialogue, based on the full mandate granted by the President of the Republic of Madagascar on November 10, 2026, for the restoration of the nation.

In conclusion, the Church calls upon all Malagasy people to choose the path of peace rather than violence; fihavanana rather than conflict; truth rather than falsehood; unity rather than division; and justice and mutual respect. The future of the nation tomorrow depends on the choices we make today. The rebuilding of Madagascar depends not only on structural reforms, but above all on the renewal of minds, hearts, and the spirit of the people.

We urge all Christians across the Island to persevere in prayer for the nation, so that the peace of Christ may truly reign in our land; that the mind of Christ may guide us; and that the Holy Spirit may counsel the Church, government leaders, and the Malagasy people, united and resolute, in this vital process of national renewal.

May peace be with you all!
